Dizziness Consultation

We assess the causative factor of the dizziness or vertigo with meticulous history and neuro-vestibular examination. This usually requires long consultation. Please arrive 5 min before the appointment time and allow yourself at least 45min for the clinic visit. You may be advised to avoid driving for a short period of time especially after inner ear crystal repositioning treatment. So, feel free to come along with your support person or carer who could facilitate your travel back home. Although a referral is not required, it’s preferred to have one with your updated medical history and medication list. This also helps to keep your regular GP involved in communication.

Infrared Video Goggles will be used to record patient eye movements for precise assessment of balance problems.

vHIT (video Head Impulse Test) is one of the advanced modality which we utilise to assess the function of semicircular canals which are part of the vestibular balance organ in the inner ear.

Patients may require audiometry (hearing test) to help in the diagnostic workup. Clinical evaluation determines whether the dizziness is peripheral or central vestibular pathology.

Targeted treatment including particle repositioning manoeuvres, medications, vestibular rehabilitation is provided accordingly. Referral to a neurologist/neuro-otologist/ENT surgeon might be considered in some cases.
